On an unseasonably warm Halloween Eve, the back room at Lenny Boy Brewing Co. was full of knife, saw, and Dremel-wiedling chefs, farmers, mixologists, and other local culinary luminaries all focused on creating a sea of carved pumpkin masterpieces. Carved 2016 was underway!

An enthusiastic crowd watched, voted, drank kombucha and craft beer, ate delicious food from Tara Diamante’s Bleu Barn Bistro food truck and Courtney Buckley’s Your Mom’s Donuts cart. They painted sugar skulls, were treated to apple cider from a hand press, and popcorn from the cob. Scott Link entertained kids of all ages with balloon animals. Silent auction bids were made. And overall, excitement and good times filled the air.

In the end, Chef Ashley Boyd of 300 East and her pirate-carving teammate Candy May garnered most votes and was named Carved 2016 champion! She was awarded a hand-crafted leather knife roll made by Brad Todd of Lucky Clays Farm.

Following up on his champion performance last year, Chef Phillip Platoni of Southminster took second place and a hand-crafted leather chef’s apron. Ms. Hannah Keller won the Kid’s competition as well as a bucket full of Halloween treats.

It was a day of creativity and skills, families and friends, smiles and laughter.

A complete success.
