PCG member Rachel Klebaur purchased Six Forks Cheese in Raleigh, NC on March 2 and will rebrand the shop to be her second Orrman’s Cheese Shop location.

The 600 square-foot space in Lafayette Village will afford Rachel opportunity for more products and a larger cheese selection. In Charlotte, Orrman’s has four feet of cheese case to populate while the new location offers 13 feet in the case. Plans are also in the works to open an Orrman’s Cheese Shop web store for online ordering.

The owners of Six Forks Cheese, Matt and Jacey Sumner, approached Rachel about purchasing the space in late January. The turnkey operation made sense, since she would need up to two years of invested time and capital to open a similar space in Charlotte.

“Our space is really tiny, and there’s more products that I want to introduce to my customers,” Rachel explains. “There’s a lot of great cheese out there.”

Orrman’s Cheese Shop opened inside Charlotte’s 7th Street Public Market in 2012 and sells a curated selection of American and regional cheeses with a focus on small batch producers. The new location in Raleigh will afford more opportunities for visits with the cheesemakers, cheesemaker demonstrations, and more cheese education classes.

“I’m excited about this expansion,” says Klebaur. “I think it’s going to benefit both cities – and who doesn’t love more cheese?”
