PCG Members Step Up to #86AIDS in June
Throughout the month of June, you can help play a vital role in the fight to end AIDS. All you have to do is eat delicious food and savor tasty drinks created by PCG members at some of your favorite places.
(RED) has teamed up with Chipotle for Eat (RED) Drink (RED) – a partnership to #86AIDS. This month, restaurants, bars, food trucks, food artisans, and food purveyors worldwide will be designating a portion of the sales from various dishes, drinks, or special events to be donated to the (RED) organization.
’86’ is a restaurant term used when an item is no longer available, as in “86 the beef cheeks!” Its use was originally documented in 1933 by famed columnist Walter Winchell is a newspaper piece featuring a “glossary of soda-fountain lingo”.
In our area, along with all Chipotle franchises, a number of local establishments have joined the campaign, with several PCG members have announcing their businesses will be stepping up to the plate.
At 300 East, the restaurant will donate 25% of all proceeds from the sale of these tasty items:
- Cocktail: Strawberry Capirinha – Leblon Cachaca, Strawberry Puree, Lime, Mint
- Mocktail: Strawberry Crush – Strawberry Puree, Ginger Beer, Soda
- Pizza: Spanish Pizza – Joyce Farms Chicken, Serrano Ham, Gouda, Manchego, Roasted Red Pepper Tomato Sauce
- Dessert: White Chocolate Bread Pudding, Rhubarb Compote, Raspberries, Lemon Curd, Crispy Meringue
“We chose items that sell briskly,” says Ashley Boyd, 300 East Owner / Pastry Chef and PCG member. “We want to send them a substantial check!”
Over at Passion8, Chef / Owner Luca Annunziata has announced a portion of the proceeds from every entree sold in the month of June will be donated to (RED). In addition, he will be host a very special (RED) event on Wednesday, June 17 – an eight-course Paired Chef’s Table (Ten guests only) for $125 per person. Contact the restaurant for details (see map below).
On Bellhaven Boulevard, Clark Barlowe of Heirloom will be hosting two (RED) Monday Dinners on June 6/8 and 6/29 where 100% of the proceeds will be donated to (RED). No set seating time. Reservations will be accepted from 5:00-9:00pm.
The cost of the eight-course menu is $115, however it can be split for a party of two, bringing the per person cost to $57.50.
“Each course is based on the national dish of one of the countries (RED) supports through their efforts,” explains Chef Clark. “Obviously since it’s at Heirloom, all of the menu will be composed of North Carolina products.”
Prefer to stay at home? No problem. Amber Lewis and Kris Reid of modPALEO are offering weekly (RED) specials of you can order directly from their website, so you can have locally-sourced, well-crafted, and creative food delivered straight to your door! All of the (RED) specials will feature fresh red ingredients with a portion of the proceeds going to (RED).
Executive Chef / Owner Majid Amoorpour, along with fellow PCG member Sous Chef Daniel Zaccariello of Bistro La Bon will be offering varying (RED) food and drink specials throughout the month, as well as a (RED) wine tasting with light hors d’oeuvres event on Sunday, June 28, together with Fine Wine Trading Co. In the Cotswold area, Chef Ben Philpott and Block & Grinder will have nightly (RED) food and cocktail specials.
In addition, the restaurant/butcher shop has designated two popular (RED) wines for the month: Runquist 1448 and MacMurray Ranch Russian River Pinot Noir.
A portion of the proceeds from the sales of both individual glasses as well as full bottles will be donated to (RED).

(RED) was founded in 2006 by Bono and Bobby Shriver to establish sustainable flow of money from the private sector to fight AIDS. To date, the organization has raised over $315 million through the sale of (RED) products and other endeavors.
