Salem Suber Treasurer
A native Charlottean, Salem Suber grew up a few blocks from his Grandfather’s Townhouse Restaurant on the corner of Queens and Providence, in Myers Park. While running around underfoot, as his Grandmother waited tables and his Grandfather managed the food and conversation, the restaurant business just felt like home.
After graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill, Salem moved to Atlanta, Georgia – where he spent the next twenty years in foodservice management and distribution, including ten years as a restaurant and catering company owner. His 300-seat steakhouse, The Jasper Family Steakhouse, was a North Georgia destination for more than ten years.
As a restaurateur, Salem embraced the opportunity to serve on the Board of Directors of the Pickens County Chamber of Commerce, Prevent Child Abuse Georgia, Prevent Child Abuse Pickens, and the Advisory Board for CASA of the Appalachian Judicial Circuit. Salem believes that restaurants and restaurant people are connectors, who have the opportunity to set the table for a better world every day.
Salem returned to Charlotte in 2009. Today, he is the Director of Culinary Services at Southminster Retirement Community, Salem has focused on replacing traditional, institutional foodservice, with creative culinary talent, and a strong emphasis on local farm foods.
