My name is Chayil Johnson, and I’m the Executive Chef at Community Matters Cafe in Uptown Charlotte.

I originally hail from Laplace Louisiana, and am strongly influenced by my cultural upbringing in New Orleans. My cuisine of choice usually falls into a blend of my New Orleans roots, with my love of Middle Eastern and Northern African cuisine.

I graduated from Johnson & Wales University with a degree in culinary arts and foodservice entrepreneurship.

At Community Matters I work with the men and women of Charlotte who are battling substance abuse and addiction, by teaching life skills and developing them in the Cafe through training.
